Canon has announced that they are offering a fee based service for Canon 5D Mark II and Canon 7D owners to have their precious cameras sent in to have a modification done that would turn the Mode Dial into a Locking Mode Dial.
Currently on these cameras, you can accidentally hit the mode dial after you have all your settings dialed in, causing the dial to turn to a different mode. With this modification, you would have to press down on the button in the center of the mode dial before you are able to change modes. This is extremely handy, I know many people have been wanting this feature for a long time, they have got there settings perfect, put the camera in the bag and accidentally hit the mode dial, changing modes, then when they grab their camera to take a quick candid shot, they miss it due to being on a different mode.
Canon has listed the service for USA customers at a price of $100 per camera.
Update: Canon Canada have also confirmed the upgrade available to Canadian Customers for a fee of $110 per camera.
