Is money tight right now with the economic crisis going on? Well you are in luck! If you have been trying to cut costs where you can to be able to continue to survive, I am sure some of these tips below should help you out and get you back on the road to having money again.
1. Have you ever read the manual for your dishwasher? Have a quick look at it, a lot of dishwashers now come with a built in heater, meaning you can turn the temperature down on your water heater since your dishwasher does it for you.
2. Don’t let your dishwasher dry the dishes for you. After the final rinse, shut the dishwasher off and prop the door open so that the dishes will air dry, and to your surprise, they will dry a lot faster.
3. Make sure your refrigerator(s) seals are airtight. To test this, place a piece of paper half in and half out of the refrigerator, close the door securely, and try and pull the paper out. If you can pull the paper out easily, you’re latch may need to be checked or your seals may need to be replaced.
4. Make sure to put a cover over liquids and foods in your refrigerator. Uncovered food and liquids let out moisture, causing your compressor to work more than it should.
5. If your refrigerator has condenser coils on the back, move it out and vacuum these off at least once a year. Cleaning them off will help the refrigerator run coolers and not as long as it usually does. Dirt on the condenser coils cause heat buildup, thus causing the refrigerator to cool down.
6. Make sure to wash, whenever possible, your clothes in cold water with cold water soap.
7. If your dryer has this feature, use the cool down feature to let the left over heat int he dryer to finish drying the clothes instead of using more heat to dry them, why use more heat when the heat is already there not being used?
8. Make sure the faucet in the kitchen is always at the cold position. When using small amount of water, you may think it does not matter what position the faucet is in, but if it is in the hot position, it calls for hot water and uses energy even though it never reaches the faucet because you didn’t need that much water.
9. If you are planning to purchase a gas range or oven, look for one with an electric ignition. One without will have a pilot light that is on all the time, thus burning more energy when not needed.
10. We know this one might sound a little ridiculous, but why do you always need to use your over? Use a small toaster or toaster oven to cook your meals. A toaster oven uses almost half as much energy as your regular oven used.
