Symantec’s bi-annual Internet Security Threat Report was released on April 8th, 2008, and according to it, there are over one million threats pertaining to viruses and malware floating around on the internet. Now as you can imagine, a lot of these viruses, trojans, and malware attacks include a lot of variations of other viruses that have first been created. According to the report, the United States in on top of the list for the country with the most malicious activity. Some very good methods you can take in helping yourself stay safe and protected are, but not limited to:
- Use a well known Anti Virus Program
- Keep your Anti Virus Program updated frequently
- Keep an eye out for Phishing Threats
- If you are not expecting someone to send you a file as an attachment, do not open the attachment
This is honestly not surprising at all, I can only imagine that if the virus definitions keep growing and growing, when will it ever end? I guess they could do a survey and remove like 90% of the viruses that are not in circulation anymore and haven’t been for over 5 years, but that could open up a whole other can of worms.
