When Yahoo! purchase Flickr, it should have been expected that some changes would happen eventually. Those changes have came and well as you can tell by the title of this entry, the Flickr users are not happy at all! A few groups have formed on Flickr, one with over 23,000 users and another with over 10,000 users, groups in the form of basically saying “No Videos On Flickr!” As you all probably know Flickr is, or was, a photo sharing website, and as you can imagine, people have lots of time to come up with photos expressing just how they think about the addition of videos. Some people don’t like change and many Flickr users are used to the photos only, which explains exactly why they don’t like the addition of videos, that’s what YouTube is for, right? No to Videos on Flickr is a petition at PetitionOnline, and currently with only 810 signatures as of writing, I hope to see them get more to see Flickr remove videos, but quite honestly, I can’t see them doing it, it’s a change they wanted to make, they made it, and people will stick to Flickr no matter what.
The new video sharing option is only for Flickr “Pro” users, which allows them to upload 90 second clips only. Come on, 90 seconds? What could possibly come from a minute and a half video clip? I am sure lots could, but seriously, what is the point to add the service if you are only allowing that amount of time, and only to the Pro users. Likely hoping that non-pro members will see this new option and get a Pro account. Obviously you can see its a measure Yahoo! has taken to try and compete with YouTube and increase the value of the website, but who are they kidding, no one will ever be able to compete with YouTube, they have won the market over a long time ago.
