This is exactly why I do not understand the human race half the time. A group of hackers had recently hacked into the Epilepsy Foundation of America and National Society of Epilepsy forums, lacing messages first with animated GIF’s and than Javascript in attempt to trigger seizures and headaches among users. Of those who are diagnosed with epilepsy, 3-5% of those have seizures triggered by photos. Both sets of forums have since been cleaned up and we give props to them for doing that, but this leaves the question whether the regulars on the forums will indeed end up going back to the forum after what has happened.
One user is quoted on saying:
“So, it really freaked me out, the events of last week. Disgusting, graphic pictures kept popping up and I got the worst headache ever. I’m sure all of you had the same. I’m sure there were some who had seizures, too. I force quit my computer and all was normal again. The next day, I asked my husband to check it and it seemed fine too but I have been avoiding this site because I didn’t know how long it would take to clean it up.”
Other users have reported that the hackers had also installed trojans and viruses all over the forum, such things as popunders, keyloggers and backdoor programs. So be very careful if you are visiting these forums.
