Drugs Found in Drinking Water

water.jpgIf you ever contemplated drinking tap water before, chances are you will be very skeptical to do so now. An associated press research lately has found many different kinds of pharmaceutical drugs in the tested water, affecting more than 41 million Americans. A little list of the drugs that were found include, but not limited to, antibiotics, anti-convulsants, mood stabilizers and sex hormones.

Water providers don’t usually expose the drug screening results, unless they are pressed to do so. The purpose behind this is to protect the public they say. According to a California supplier of water, the public would find out this information and not be able to interpret it, therefore being alarmed about something that would have no effect on them.

I highly doubt that is true, how can traces of any drugs found in the water have no effect on the public? I’m sorry but if I am drinking water that has traces of drugs in it, I think I should be informed and be my own choice to decide whether I want to continue drinking it or not. If you want to know how the drugs get into the water, here is a brief explanation as to how it would happen. As we all know, we end up having to take pills. Most of the medication is absorbed by our bodies, the rest of which is passed and flushed down the toilet. That waste water is than treated before it is than sent back out into reservoirs, rivers or lakes. After that, the water is than treated again and cleaned at a water treatment plant, and piped into our homes, but as you can guess, the treatment used to cleanse the water, does not remove all traces of drug residue.

Alarming effects through recent studies, have proven that after decades of the drugs going unnoticed by the public, are having an effect on human cells as well as wildlife.
